NEVER GIVE UP

Dude, dont give up ! i went to Odyssey and bought a book named 60 management models. It was very good. When i was reading the book, a sudden thought appeared about my tenacity.

I easily give up ! if i think back, i was right most of the times. but i have given up without a fight. I showed my anger early with any thought and moved out of the situation. I need to control my anger. nothing else. I am a great Project manager ! i will be back soon in the business.

View from the BOTTOM

I am back as a programmer for jcpenney a .net programmer. view from the bottom is interesting. i find my manager without a plan and they seem to be in a hurry and they make decision very quickly and with lots of inefficiencies. This is not to blame them. TCS was very slow to provide the resources, and how could you expect a pm to provide resources to the client for the Knowledge acquisition. KA is getting delayed and the manager is showing his anger and frustration on the team members.

I would have taken it personally in this case !

Appraisal of myself

I am good. I dont have anything against anyone. Dude ! you are also right most of the time. So why i keep failing. Most of the time i fail because i am not able to hold myself confidently and remain calm.

1. People test you out with their provocative questions
2. People in order to hide their mistakes argue forcefully so that their mistakens become hidden.
3. You need to remain firm when provoked.
4. You need not argue the case with anyone. You just state you opinion and leave.
5. You dont show anyone about your anger with others.
6. Never ever open your cards to anyone. Everyone in this world is a competitor.
7. People with their stubborness make you to make a mistake and may dump everything on you to justify themselvess. Dude ! you have failed multiple times over this. Dont fail again.

Performance of myself at Nielsen

1. Be careful when you respond to emails. The blunders of writing idiotic email to Yogesh about him losing his job.
2. Writing about anger to Gana and Anamika.
3. Writing about the anger to a team member and revealing about the fights with Anand G to Dhivya
4. Showing frustrations on Sai prasad within a week
5. Showing frustrations on Arvindh for a status report
6. Shouting at Muthu and niloy over Sumesh
7. Shouting at Sumesh
8. Arguing the case with Ramki
9. Showing your anger before Anand
10. Shouting it out with Gana
11. Accepting to take on status reporting
12. Arguing with Anand G

AC Nielsen Test Manager

I am excited about this new opportunity. Team is going to be around 50 odd people. I need manage very well and lay lots of importance on DEFENCE. I need to temper my reactions and not show my frustrations on people.

To summarize the lessons learnt from previous experiences,

1. I am not going treat any one as my competitor and indulge in power plays.
2. Play lots of DEFENCE. During the first few months, never open your cards, learn everything and observe people.
3. I introduce new policies taking test leads in to confidence so that buy in process from the team is fully there. Without team buy in, bharathi, you are not going go far.
4. Have your head always on your shoulders. but also don't underestimate yourselves.
5. Never underestimate others.
6. Be careful of women employees. Women in these days are highly demanding. hence play defence.
7. Follow Periamma's advice, " IF you are not able to do any thing particular, dont get disappointed just keep going"
8. And if some one doesn't show respect, allow them time, you dont go and try to get their attention. They will be soon interested in you and show interest in you.
9. Find out the repetitive tasks and push it to your team members.
10. Concentrate on the structural strategy. Don't get into details ! It is a quagmire. You cannot come out of it.
11. Finally never get the feeling, that if a particular action has not happened, things cannot move at all.

"Bharathi, you have failed multiple times over the point 11. Dont fail again"

Yoga

So after a wonderful year at San Jose, California, i am back in India, Chennai working out of digial zone. I did join the yoga classes at sivananda yoga center. My yoga teacher was from Oakland, CA. Wow what feeling it was to know about it ! I was reminded of the wonderful days in the Bay area. I wish my daughter Yamuna has an opportunity to visit San jose and do see the american way of life in CA.
